Holding futures through internet or power outages: planning for Bangladeshi traders
An open futures position does not pause when your connection drops. Learn how traders in Bangladesh can size positions, set protective orders, and plan for outages before opening leveraged trades.
Multiple exchanges | Bangladesh | BDT | fees, access and account safety
Load-shedding, mobile network congestion, and occasional wider internet disruptions are part of daily life for many people in Bangladesh. For a spot holder, a few hours offline is an inconvenience. For someone with an open leveraged futures position, it can be the difference between a manageable loss and a liquidation. The exchange keeps marking your position to market whether you can see it or not. The answer is to treat every futures trade as if you might lose access at the worst moment, and to plan accordingly.
Set the stop before anything else
Attach a stop-loss when you open the position, not after. On Binance, OKX, Bybit, and Bitget you can add take-profit and stop-loss directly in the order form. These sit on the exchange and work while you are offline. A position without a stop depends entirely on you being able to log in, which is exactly what an outage prevents. Check after placing that the stop appears in open orders with the right trigger type.
Size for the time you might be away
Consider how long a typical outage lasts for you, then look at how far price can move in that time during volatile periods. Lower leverage and a smaller position mean the liquidation price sits further away, giving the stop room to act. Isolated margin limits a single trade's damage to its own collateral. Use the exchange calculator to see liquidation distance before entering.
Prepare a backup connection
Keep a second way to reach your account: mobile data from a different operator, a power bank charged at all times, or a trusted computer elsewhere. Make sure your authenticator or passkey works on that backup route. Practise logging in through it once so you know it works. Never share your login with a friend to manage positions for you during an outage; that creates far bigger risks.
Avoid funding-heavy positions you cannot monitor
Perpetual futures charge or pay funding at set intervals. Holding a position for days while you cannot check it means funding costs can accumulate unnoticed. Help centres explain the schedule. If you expect to be offline for long periods, consider whether a futures position is the right tool at all, or whether a smaller spot position meets the same goal with less stress.

Scenario checkpoint
- Attach a stop-loss in the same order form when opening every futures position.
- Check liquidation distance in the exchange calculator against a realistic outage length.
- Keep a charged power bank and a second mobile operator ready as a backup connection.
- Test logging in through the backup route once so you know it actually works.
